Businessman Armin Mattsson is the person who has done the most for Santa Maria’s development. During his twenty years as president, he has changed a lot within our company and has also succeeded in speeding progress up throughout the entire conservative spice industry.
Until the 1950s, spice companies were packing their spices by hand. However, in 1953 Mattsson is the first person in Sweden to invest in an automatic sachet packaging machine for spices. Thanks to Mattsson’s innovative thinking, the rest of the industry begins making their production processes more efficient.

You could also say that it was Armin Mattsson who taught the Swedish to drink tea made using teabags. In 1949, he introduces the English brand Tetley Tea to Sweden. It is an exciting newfangled idea in a country without a culture of using teabags. Santa Maria’s cooperation with Tetley Tea continues until 2001.
