Santa Maria AB is a family company that was founded by Armin Mattsson in 1946. But our history stretches back even further than that.
It all begins in 1911, when C. Leon Berg opens a small tea and spice shop in Gothenburg, where he works until his death. After this, kinsmen Nordlund and Falk take over the shop and change its name to Nordfalks.
During the 1940s, Armin Mattsson and his colleague Hugo Lundgren buy the grocer’s shop and form a limited company. Soon, it all takes off. Nordfalks AB invests in modern machinery, improves efficiency and begins working in close cooperation with ICA, which rapidly becomes a major customer. Nordfalks experiences annual growth and becomes the largest spice company in Sweden.

In 1968, Armin’s son Lars-Olof Mattsson takes over from his father and is responsible for much of the company’s expansive development. In 1989, we expand our market area to all store chains in Scandinavia. At the start of the 1990s, we set out to enter Europe, the Baltic States and Russia.
In 2001, Nordfalks changes its name to Santa Maria AB. It feels right for our parent company to have the same name as our strong, well-known and established brand.
Today, Santa Maria is Scandinavia’s leading flavouring company and a market leader in several regions throughout Europe. Our aim is to continue growing and we hope that the future will prove just as exciting as the past.
